Radon AwarenessRADON Awareness Presentation for Genoa Residents — The Nevada Radon Education Program (NREP) presentation at the Genoa Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. is hosted by the UNR Cooperative Extension Office.

Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that you can’t see, smell or taste. It is also the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers in the U.S. The U.S. EPA estimates that 1 out of 15 homes nationwide has an elevated level of radon — in Nevada, the ratio is 1 out of 4. NREP is striving to educate Nevadans about this potential health risk in resident’s homes by providing FREE Radon Test Kits to Nevada residents and detailed information on why, where and how to mitigate radon in a home. Starting on January 10th — and through the month of February — FREE radon test kits will available for Genoa area residents at the Genoa Town Office. (Kits will also on hand year-round for free to Nevada residents in the Cooperative Extension Office at 1325 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.)

Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe Celebration

A benefit for the Friends of Snowshoe Thompson to promote awareness and maintain his statue in Genoa. From 1856 to 1876 Snowshoe Thompson made 90-mile ski treks over snowdrifts up to 50 feet high through blizzards with 80 mph winds, to deliver mail between California and Nevada over the Sierra Nevada.

Hosted by the F&A Masons and located at the Masonic Hall, Douglas Lodge No. 12, in downtown Genoa from 9 a.m. to Noon.
The Masons’ goal for 2020 is 15 units. Last year, the Masons and United Blood Services collected 12 units. Help them collect 3 more units this year by donating!

Genoa Americana CelebrationWelcome to the GENOA AMERICANA CELEBRATION at the Mormon Station State Historic Park (GVFD), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This year’s 4th of July Celebration in Genoa will prove to be better than ever! The day will feature traditional music groups and will conclude with a performance by the Carson Symphony Orchestra featuring David Bugli as conductor. The Annual Genoa Halloween Party has a new addition: The 1st Annual PARADE of HORRORS!

Starting with a mustering of the monsters at the Town Hall at 4 PM, the Halloween Party & Parade of Horrors! is open to all residents of Genoa and the Genoa Area. The Town will provide a main dish for the dinner, and soft drinks. Parents: Please bring a SIDE DISH and donate bottle of WINE or BEER for the "Parents Bar." There will be music and games with a prizes for kids.

DONATE CANDY at the Town Office for the Party! Drop off unopened bags of individually wrapped Halloween candy BEFORE the Party, during regular business hours, 2289 Main Street, Genoa, NV, or call (775) 782-8696.

The Parade of Horrors! begins at 5 p.m. at the Genoa Park, along with a few more activities. AFTER the Parade, resident monsters will be herded back to the Town Hall for the Halloween Party, games, food and drinks. Have a scary-safe Halloween!

Halloween Volunteers Needed, October 30 — Please help us set up the Genoa Town Hall starting at 4 p.m. until ? (finished?) for the Halloween Party and Parade of Horrors! on October 31. We also need people to organize the parade, run games, bartending, food service, cleanup, etc., during the party. Breakfast with Santa on Saturday from 8:30 a.m., 9:40 a.m. and 10:50 a.m.
Santa will be visiting with children and their families throughout the morning. Be sure to bring your camera!
Breakfast will consist of fluffy pancakes with syrup, sausage, orange juice and coffee. Tickets are $5 per person, children 4 years and under are free! Breakfast with Santa will be held in the Genoa Town Hall located at 2287 Main Street. Drive-By Food Drive

NOVEMBER 25 THROUGH DECEMBER 10, 2020

“SHARE YOUR CHRISTMAS” HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE — Download the event flyer when available.

Genoa Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a non-perishable food drop-off point — look for the collection barrel next to the south-side doors of the Genoa Fire Station through Thursday, December 10.

On Friday, December 13, volunteers will transport all the food collected to the KTVN Channel 2 News "Share Your Christmas" Holiday Drive-By Food Drive drop-off at the Carson Valley Inn.

All proceeds donated in Genoa will benefit the Carson Valley Food Closet.

Carson Valley Food ClosetDonations of non-perishable food items in plastic bags should be placed beside trash cans during the week of DECEMBER 7-11, 2020. The collected food will be weighed and then delivered to the Carson Valley Community Food Closet to help support our community during the holiday season.
